Thematic events in the town of Krk in 2011
25th April - VIA THE GOLDEN DROPS OF KRK’S TREASURE
With this event the new thematic walking path known as “Via the golden drops of Krk’s treasure” which takes walkers from the town of Krk up to the Vrh settlement and back will be opened.
On Easter Monday, a guided walking tour starting from Vela placa and passing along the new walking path will take place. The route of this new thematic trail is 14 km long, and it should take about 4 hours to walk, and with stops for refreshment, a maximum of 5 hours. Within the programme, participants will be provided with refreshments (water, dried figs, traditional pastries). After returning from the walk, a farmhouse brunch prepared with Krk products will be organized in Vela placa, by the members of Drobnica Association, with promotional prices and entertainment with musical accompaniement.
The Drobnica fest event will take place on the same day – in the town of Krk's olive grove festival within which a professional lecture, an appraisal of olive oils, a guided tasting will be organized together with the sale and exhibition of olive oil and olive cultivation tools.
Besides the olive growers, other Krk producers of agricultural products such as Krk’s cheese, salted and marinated fish, wine, smoked ham, distillates, etc. will present themselves at Vela placa, in a fitting exhibition market.
30th April – 1st May - SPRING ON WHEELS
This event promotes the possibilities of going on excursions to the rural areas of the town and as a means of transport wheel vehicles such as bikes and quads are recommended.
A small two or four-wheel vehicle fair will be set up on Krk’s waterfront on Saturday and Sunday, and authorized representatives of bikes, scooters and quads together with sellers from the area surrounding the town of Krk will exhibit their products.
On Sunday, organized tours on bikes and quads will start from Krk’s waterfront. Tours are guided along the secondary roads and rural paths of the island’s interior. Every tour will visit a cultural and natural monument. Guided tours are free for all participants and it is possible to have lunch in one of the catering facilities in the area surrounding the town with a special promotional price.
13th – 14th May - SCUBA FEST
There are number of scuba diving centres in the town of Krk that are qualified to satisfy even the most demanding guests interested in the blueness of the sea. Within the event, scuba diving centres will present their offer on the Krk waterfront and equipment for the sport will be exhibited as well.
On Saturday an eco action to clean the sea bottom will be organized in which scuba diving centres and their guests will participate together with local Krk boatmen. The activity will take place from Dunat to Glavotok, and in this way all those taking part will convey a message, that besides knowing how to enjoy the beauties of the sea, they are also aware of how to take care of its cleanliness.
A scuba party will be organized in evening hours on the fishermen’s pier for all those taking part.
26th – 29th May - KRK’S WINE PROMENADE
The excellent Croatian wine producers together with Krk’s caterers will present themselves with special promotional prices inside catering facilities. Guided tastings, professional lectures, watercolour painting with wine - vinorel - as well as a vinorel painting technique workshop will be organized. The evening programme will be enriched by klapas performances and a musical and theatrical programme and will take place both in the catering facilities and on the town’s streets.
On the promenade through the town of Krk, guests, guided by a special flyer map, will be able to, walk through the city, getting to know it even better and visiting the places mentioned in order to enjoy the flavours on their palates. They will also be able to try the excellent wines and enjoy the gastronomic delicacies. We should especially point out that catering hosts together with their collaborators and wine producers have set up a special promotional price for the wine enabling lovers of these exellent wines to enjoy in them, even in this period of recession.
10th June - THE CALL OF THE SEA
With this event the town of Krk marks the start of the bathing season, and announces that the beaches are ready to welcome guests for a pleasant stay. On that day, on up to seven beaches Blue flags will wave. These are an international ecological acknowledgement confirming the high bathing standards offered to guests here.
This programme takes place at the Dražica bathing facility, and part of the event includes the raising of the Blue flag itself. Following this an entertainment programme on the beach will be organized for guests. Moreover, the Adriatic games - thematic water and land games - will be organized in which 6 teams each with 8 competitors will take part. Competitors will take part in a number of sporting including traditional games such as tug of war, sack races, climbing to reach a smoked ham, barrel rowing and other such games. Participation is free for all those interested and the best team will pass to the following round.
26th June – 1st July - KRK JAZZ LIVE
For the third time in a row, the international musical event will take place in the town of Krk over a number of days to bring together musicians from all over the world. During their stay in the town of Krk, jazz sessions and concerts will be organized on a daily basis in the Frankopan Castle, with a concert of welcome held at the Valamar Koralj Hotel and a final concert held in the Tavern of the Valamar Koralj Hotel.
The seminar includes jazz workshops held under the guidance of an international team of excellent jazz players who are also professors at reputable European Music Academies.
8th – 10th August - 486th KRK FAIR - Lovrečeva
The Krk fair includes a series of programmes that together make up a rich event including: a medieval fair in Kamplin Square, an ecological and handicraft fair, a marittime battle and a excursion that includes a treasure hunt, an entertainment programme in three different locations as well as a specially created gastronomic programme based exclusively on original Krk and Croatian dishes.
As with past years, the greatest event in the town of Krk is used for the promotion of original Krk and Croatian values on which the unique tourist offer is founded. By bonding its rich history with its modernity, an image of a destination which takes care of preserving its traditional values is created making it available to the modern guest.
15th August - KRK’S SAILS
For the fourteenth time in a row, the Krk’s Sails regatta will take place in the Krk Bay aquatorium including the traditional sailing boat regatta and cruiser sailing boat regatta. The Regatta starts precisely at noon and in the evening hours an entertainment program will be organized for participants and guests on Krk’s waterfront.
2nd – 4th September - FIGS DAYS
The aim of this Figs Days gastronomic event is to promote the return to tradition of this tasty and medicinal, but somehow forgotten fruit. To promote the Figs Days in the Krk area, over ten catering facilities regularly join in and during those days, besides tasty pastries include interesting sweet and salty combinations on their menus with a delicious fruit queen as well. Dishes include pizza with figs, various meat dishes prepared with figs, salads and of course, the unavoidable, fig drinks together with the irresistible and healthy pastries. At Vela placa an appropriate sale of figs products – jams, brandies, dried figs, smokvenjaci (pastry made of figs) and similar products will be organized.
11th September - BODUL BIKE
With the support of the Krk Mountain Bike Club, for the fourth year in a row, a sporting and recreational event – the Bodul bike cycling race will take place. The cycle race will, as in previous years, comprise of two stages: the first and more difficult – of approximately 40 km long and the second easier – of approximately 20 km long. The race will start on Krk’s waterfront and participants will be provided with refreshments (water, fruit, dried figs, homemade pastries and other such delicacies) and after the race an entertainment programme with music will be organized for all those taking part on Krk's waterfront.
17th September - AUTUMN WALK
An organized walking tour along local walking trails will take place. As for the spring programme, participation is free and those taking part will be provided with refreshments (water, dried figs, Krk pastries). There is also an organized lunch held in the catering facility close to the town with special promotional prices. After walking, an entertainment programme will be organized on the waterfront.
