A dozen restaurants and taverns, and a tasting room from the town of Krk have joined this spring’s edition gastronomic journey “Travel to Taste Krk”.
You will have the opportunity to taste the food right where it is prepared by enjoying the authentic, local produce and superior traditional flavours, overlooking the enchanting landscapes and the town surroundings on the terraces of Krk’s restaurateurs.
During May and June eat locally sourced! Explore the menus rich with groceries from producers of the island; the best and the freshest tastes are the ones produced on-site. Eating locally means providing nourishment for yourself, but also for the community that has put an effort in growing quality food.
Savour Krk’s prosciutto, the first Croatian product to be protected under the EU quality schemes, cured using salt and self-grown herbs of the Krk island, and left to dry on the bora wind; Krk’s olive oil, obtained directly from the native varieties of olive fruit, such as Debela, Naška, Rošulja and Slatka, protected by the EU designation of origin; Vrbnička Žlahtina, dry white wine made from the native grape variety white žlahtina, which thrives only in the Krk vineyards, in particular, the Vrbnik area; Krk cheese, produced exclusively on the island’s family farms; šurlice homemade pasta, a trademark of Krk’s gastronomy, that every local family prepares according to their “secret” recipe;… |
Embrace the flavours that delight you mostly by acknowledging their history and origin. In modern gastronomy with locally grown food the quality is no longer in question. It becomes an experience! |
